Influenza is the most common illness in most parts of Australia from about June to September.

What is influenza?

Influenza is caused by a virus that infects the nose, throat, and sometimes even the lungs. It is easily spread by coughing, sneezing, and close contact with others. Symptoms of influenza include fever, headache, fatigue, and muscle aches. These symptoms begin suddenly and can last a week or more.

The elderly may also experience confusion. Children may experience irritation or primobolan stomach upset.

Influenza can sometimes cause serious complications, such as pneumonia, which can worsen existing medical conditions and lead to hospitalization or death.

Is the flu shot effective?

Because influenza viruses are constantly changing, so is the influenza vaccine. To protect yourself against influenza, it is recommended that you be vaccinated annually.

The 2020 flu vaccine is recommended for all persons 6 months of age and older. The influenza vaccine does not contain live viruses, so the vaccine will not transmit influenza. The influenza vaccine does not contain live viruses, so the vaccine does not transmit influenza.

How much is a flu shot?

Free for those at high risk (e.g., all children 6 months to 5 years of age, all pregnant women, persons 65 years of age or older, all Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander persons over 6 months of age, and persons with other health conditions).
